A video can belong to one of several topic areas, called categories.

 

Comment

A text response to a video.

 

Embedding

You can have Bio-alive videos appear inside other webpages and blogs. The code for this is on each watch page below the video.

 

Flag as Inappropriate

If you believe a video violates Terms of Use, you may flag it from the watch page. Our administrators review all flagged videos.

 

Friends

You can invite other users to be your friends. This allows you to share private videos with each other. You can send invitations to a friend after login.

 

Group

Groups allows users to share videos and have discussions on a common theme. They can be found under the Groups tab.

 

Private Video

You can upload videos as private. These won't appear in search results, and can only be seen by your friends.

 

Rate

You can rate videos by clicking the stars. More red is better.

 

Search

There is a search box at the top of every page. Accepts groups, video titles, descriptions, tags.

 

General Questions

 

What is Bio-alive

Bio-alive is an life science video sharing community that allows anyone to view and share videos that have been uploaded by our members.

 

How do I join?

To become a member of Bio-alive, go to the "Signup" page (http://www.bio-alive.com/community/login.php), enter your email address, choose a username and password, and agree to terms. Then click the "Register" button and check your email. Click the link sent to your email and you're done.

 

I forgot my user name or password. How do I log back into the site?

If you forgot your password, go to Login page (http://www.bio-alive.com/community/login.php). Under "Forget my details, enter your email address and click "Resend", you login details will be sent to your email address.

 

I never received my confirmation email. What happened?

If you have just joined Bio-alive, the confirmation link is included in the "Welcome" email you received after signing up. If you don't receive either the welcome or confirmation email when you expect to, check in your email client's spam folder—some are more aggressive than others about identifying spam.

 

Making Videos

 

How do I make a video?

You'll need to have a device such as digital camera. Copy the video to your computer, and then you can either upload them as-is or edit them with software such as iMovie or Windows Movie Maker to add titles and special effects.

 

What video file formats can I upload?

Bio-alive accepts video files from most digital cameras, camcorders, and cell phones in the .mpeg, .flv, .avi, .mov, wmv file formats.

 

How do I edit my video?

Most computers come with some sort of video editing application already installed, such as Apple iMovie or Microsoft Movie Maker or ArcSoft ShowBiz. Using these programs, you can easily edit your videos, add soundtracks, change the file type, compress the file size, etc.

 

Uploading Videos to Bio-alive

 

How do I upload a video?

Once you’ve finished editing your video, made sure it's less than 10 minutes, smaller than 100MB, and in an acceptable format, you're ready to upload it (If you have videos that are more than 100MB in file size, please contact us for a special uploading arrangement).

1. Click "Upload Video" in the upper-right-hand corner of any Bio-alive page.

2. Enter as much information about your video as possible, including Title, Description, Tags, and Channel. The more information you include, the easier it is for users to find your video!

3. Determine if you want your video set to Public or Private.

4. Click the "Next" button.

5. In the next window, click the "Browse" button to browse for the video file. Select the file you want to upload.

6. Click the "Upload" button.

 

How long will my video take to upload?

Depending on your connection speed and the size of the video, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours to upload a video.

 

How long does it take to process a video after it's been uploaded?

Processing time varies greatly depending on the format of your original video, file size, and upload traffic. This could take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours.

 

Do I have to sign up to upload videos?

Yes. Since videos are attached to your profile, you must sign up as a member to upload videos. Becoming a member also allows you to save videos, create favorites, and leave comments, among many other features.

 

What video file formats can I upload?

How long/large can my video be?

All videos uploaded to Bio-alive have a 100MB file size limit and about 10 minutes in length. If you have videos that are more than 100MB in file size, please contact us for a special uploading arrangement.

 

Is there a limit to how many videos I can upload?

No limit.
